Additional details have been released on the phase out of the Tier 1 (General) category under the Points Based System. As of 2011 this category was already closed both to new applicants from outside of the UK, and to applicants already in the UK seeking a change of status to the Tier 1 (General) from another immigration category. However, renewals are currently still possible, and up to now there was no deadline defined for last renewals under this category.

The Home Office has now announced the following 2 deadlines related to the TIER 1 (General) category:

  • 5 April 2015 This is the last date on which applications for an extension of leave under the TIER 1 (General) category will be accepted.
  • 5 April 2018 Anyone currently in the UK on a TIER 1 (General) and who want to apply for indefinite leave to remain will need to submit their application latest on this date.

Foreigners who are currently staying in the UK on a TIER 1 (General) status are therefore advised to renew their leave before the 6th April 2015, and/or, if eligible, to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain before 6th April 2018. Pro-Link GLOBAL is able to assist with either application.
