According to the UAE Consular website in Canada, “Effective January 02, 2011 Canadian Passport holders will need a visa to enter the UAE.”
Currently, Canadians can obtain a visa on arrival in the UAE. This change in the visa regulations, means that Canada will be removed from the list of countries who currently enjoy the right to apply for a visa on arrival at the airport. No prior arrangements need to be made and the visa stamp is free when arriving at Dubai International Airport, Abu Dhabi Airport, or other airports.
Additionally, there has been speculation that if a Canadian holds a GCC Visa under the multinational manager status, then they would still be permitted to enter the UAE using a visa on arrival. Citizens of the GCC countries Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia either do not need a visa to enter the UAE.
