On 6 Jun 2014, I volunteered for the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure ride. I know several people who suffer from diabetes, which affects nearly 26 million people in the USA, and do what I can to help find a cure. This is the sixth year I’ve participated in it, and the first time I’ve volunteered at one of the rest stops. Working alongside 5 other volunteers, we made sure there were plenty of sandwiches (PB&J as well as BLT!), bananas, drinks, and snacks available for the riders who were riding 100+ miles. There’s a saying, “If you want to ride fast, go alone. If you want to go far, ride with a group.” I consider my time spent to have ensured the cyclists go far, and for that I’m grateful to have the time available to spend.
