RomaniaFebruary 19, 2015

Effective at the beginning of this year, Romania has implemented higher minimum salary requirements for Romanian nationals and foreign workers alike.

Pursuant to Government Decision no. 1.091/2014, the new minimum threshold salary requirements for foreign workers are:

1. Standard Work Permit: 2415 RON per month (approximately US $548);
2. Highly Skilled EU Blue Card: 9660 RON per month (approximately US $2,189)

The new required minimums represent a healthy increase and are based on the Romanian median gross salary, which is expected to rise again in July 2015.

Companies who plan to sponsor foreign employees in Romania, coming either on assignment, local contract or under the Blue Card status should be aware of the applicable salary requirements and budget appropriately to ensure the application meets the legal requirements at the time of the approval (not filing).
