I am currently completing my provisional year with the Junior League of Dallas. I know that “Service Above Self” is such an important part of PLG’s mission statement. This is why I wanted to reach out to see if I might interest you in a contribution to our League.
The Junior League of Dallas annually returns approximately $1 million to the Dallas community and provides trained volunteers who give over 120,000 uncompensated hours to 41 agencies within six issue areas. Those areas reflect the needs in the Dallas community and are identified as Arts & Cultural Enrichment, Education, Family Preservation, Health, Poverty Intervention and Violence Intervention.
Next month, we will be holding our second annual Rummage Roundup Fundraiser for the Junior League’s Community Service Fund. The Rummage Roundup raises money through private donations and through the sale itself. Last year’s Rummage Roundup, organized by the previous year’s Provisional Class, raised over $16,000 despite being an external, non-tax deductible event. Due to the success of last year’s “roundup”, the Junior League of Dallas made this year’s sale an official event, granting it tax-deductible status. Myself, and nearly 150 volunteers, expect to raise more money for the Community Service Fund this year. The continued success of this event depends on generous contributions from local businesses, colleagues and private citizens.
The funds would make a world of difference to agencies who have struggled along at the bottom of the funding chain. Most importantly, every dollar donated to our approved agencies must be accompanied by uncompensated hours of volunteerism. In fact, Junior League volunteers spend at least 60 hours in their community placement each year helping countless numbers of citizens, young and old in our community. I, personally, completed more than 20 hours of community service two weekends ago volunteering at the Goodwill of Dallas.
Needless to say, I know you must get many requests from worthy organizations throughout the year. I would love for you and PLG to align your philanthropic interests with our organization’s needs, by way of leveraging your donated dollars with this year’s Rummage Roundup Fundraiser.
Thank you, I appreciate your consideration.
